The
Alexander Technique is a subtle but extremely powerful reeducation
process
that seeks to restore the natural physiological organization for
posture,
balance and movement to the human system.

As children we are born into a
world where the social construction of the body is often at odds with
our
physiological inheritance. For many of us, by the time we are in our
twenties
or thirties we realize that our posture may be problematical and
various
aches and pains or injuries indicate a misuse of our bodies in our
daily
activities.
Alexander's
discovery demonstrated
that use affects functioning. The
aim
of the technique is to reeducate our awareness of our use of
ourselves
to prevent or minimize interference with the natural balance and
movement
systems. This reduces the harmful effects which unconscious habitual
use
can bring about as in Alexander's case. Instead we discover our
lightness,
ease and flexibility which is the natural state of a well poised
individual.
