A while back I was inspired with a vision which many of us will be able to share, wherever we are around the Earth.

On September 15,  the attention of an anticipated four billion people around the world will be focussed on the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games here in Sydney Australia, climaxing in the lighting of the fire in the cauldron. 

While there are many views about the relevance of the Olympics themselves, one thing is sure, the focus of this many people in the exact same moment is unprecedented in global history. 

There is a way to take advantage of this moment with unpredictable capacity for positive change: by aligning our focus with each other, creating a synergy of mind and feeling. We know how powerful this phenomenon can be in when as two or more we are focussed emotionally and intellectually on the subject at hand, whether as an audience listening to music, watching a sports event, or inspired by theatre or art or some wonder of nature. Imagine the potential of all of us who care for the future, linking in the same moment!

There are many possible ways we could direct this vast energy ~ toward world peace, the end of hunger, an awakening of cooperative politics, the end of environmental desecration, a more humane economy, a vigorous spirituality that  manifests in responsible social action...

In the light of so many pressing needs for a better world in this new millenium, our focus can very simply be on the interconnectedness of all living things: the exquisite harmony of nature and the elements, animals and humans, all expressions of intelligence and creativity.

This small window in time is a chance to take a pause, relaxing into the love and connectedness that links all our hearts and minds, knowing that as we open to the peace within, all things become possible.

Perhaps those of us who pray or meditate, or who are watching the opening ceremony with others, can bring our minds and hearts into attunement as the ceremony unfolds, and then, at the precise moment of the lighting of the flame in the cauldron, simply let go into silence. 

It is my understanding that in this moment, we will connect with the living essence which interweaves through all life, reconciling differences and empowering our efforts for a positive future. However you may envision the possibilities, I hope you will join us, for truly, whatever our different perspectives, we are one.
