CSP - CONCENTRATING SOLAR POWER
CSP CONCENTRATING SOLAR POWER

Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems use lenses or mirrors combined with tracking systems to focus sunlight which is then used to generate electricity.

The primary mechanisms for concentrating sunlight are the parabolic trough, the solar power tower (not to be confused with solar updraft towers) and the parabolic dish.

The high temperatures produced by CSP systems can also be used to provide heat and steam for a variety of applications (cogeneration). CSP technologies require direct sunlight (insolation) to function and are of limited use in locations with significant cloud cover.

 (Mon, 25 Feb, 2008)

Construction of the worlds largest and most efficient solar photovoltaic power station in northern Victoria will commence in 2009 following the signing of a $290 million Development Agreement between Melbourne-based business, Solar Systems, and leading integrated energy company, TRUenergy.

TRUenergy has provided $40 million to Solar Systems in return for a 20 percent ownership interest. This investment will help ensure growth and continued success as the global leader in the development of concentrated photovoltaics.
